Termite control

Termite knowledge:
Termites, also known as warriors, are one of the five world pests in tropical and subtropical regions. Most termites begin to hatch from eggs and become larvae. After differentiation, the larvae become soldiers, workers and nymphs. If the ants further develop into supplementary queens and long-winged reproductive ants, the long-winged reproductive ants become primitive queens and queens by dividing their wings.
Termites have remarkable ecological characteristics: colony life, hidden activities, love of cleanliness, information sensitivity, and colony reproduction. Termites belong to incomplete metamorphosis with complex life history. Termites can be divided into two categories according to their habits.
One is the woody termites: the size of the population varies. They build nests in the hollow parts of wooden buildings, such as wooden doors and windows, wooden floors, wooden houses, railway sleepers, wooden bridges, dead trees and so on. They feed on woody fibers and are the major pests of wood products. Wood is hollowed out and buildings collapse easily.
Railway sleepers are bored, which affects their service life and poses a great threat to traffic safety. The second is termites: nests built in the ground, underground soil, or towers above the ground, known as ant mounds. Native termites feed on trees, leaves and fungi. Insect Pest Recognition: Long-winged reproductive ant body length (connecting wings) 8-10 mm. The yellow-breasted termite has brown body, black-gray wings and dark yellow forechest and back. Black-breasted termites have black head and chest, light abdomen, black-brown antennae and wings.
Soldier ant body length 5.3-5.8 mm, head rectangular, from the side, yellow-breasted scattered termite frontal area protuberant, light yellow. The frontal area of the black-breasted termite is flat and dark. The upper jaws are black-brown and saber-shaped. Life habits: eating habits are widespread, mainly wood, the choice of wood is not as strict as termites.
All fibers such as cotton and linen fabrics, bamboo wares and paper are eaten by them, especially wood in low-lying and humid areas. The hazards are generally from low to high, usually from the bottom of the pillow, the foot of the ground, the foot of the ladder, the foot of the door frame, the foot of the column, the coal trough and so on, and gradually develop upward. Living trees or stems mostly bore in from the root cortex and then spread to the upper part. Reticulitermes flavipectus is rarely harmful to floors.
Black-breasted scattered termites are harmful to wooden beams and build nests on them, which can be seen in damp floors. There are also seasonal variations in the erosion of scattered termites. Because of their stronger cold tolerance than that of domestic termites, the feeding activity period of scattered termites is particularly long.
When the temperature is above 10 C, the activity does not weaken. Humidity is the main factor affecting activities. The first temperature rise in February to June every year, the Yangtze River Basin rains a lot, the humidity is high, and the termite damage is the most rampant, with April and May as the peak. There is a second climax in autumn when it is rainy, and the surface activity is weak in autumn and winter when it is dry. The scattered termite population is small, sometimes the whole nest group gathers in one place, sometimes disperses the harm, only a few termites are found in the harm place, and the pillow is corroded, often by stages. Reproductive characteristics: Reticulitermes flavipectus has emerged and matured from September to October.
Before maturation, the wings gradually change from gray to black-brown. After maturation, they gather in one place and do not move. When the temperature first warmed up in February next year, the temperature began to fly separately on sunny days of 17 20 and the flying time was about 1 - 3 pm. Because the nesting environment temperature of each colony is different, the flying time of each colony is different, and the emergence and maturation of long-winged reproductive ants of the same colony are successive, so there are many flying times, and the flying time should be extended to the end of April. There is also the phenomenon that the wings of the moth have not been separated. The long-winged reproductive ants of the black-breasted scattered termite emerged and matured in March-April of that year. They began to fly separately in April-5 and ended in June. Separation takes place at 3-5 p.m. (the temperature is above 20 Celsius).
Common species in China
1. Formosan milk termites;
2. Yellow and black-breasted termites;
3. Black-winged termites;
4. Yellow-winged termites;
5. Truncated termites.
Termites are harmful to buildings, especially in tropical and subtropical areas. Generally speaking, termites have the following three characteristics:
&# Hidden: Termites are invisible insects, afraid of sunlight.
When endangering trees and other objects, they seem to be in good condition on the outside, but they are full of holes on the inside. Every year in April and May, a large number of reproductive ants fly separately, pair landing, survival and reproduction, building new nests. Termites nest in soil, walls or wood. Home termites, a serious termite species in Guangdong Province, have a foraging radius of more than 100 meters from the nest. They can erode hard wood, corrode steel and cement, build termite paths and forage far away from the nest. Once found, the damage is very serious. &# Extensive: Termites are harmful to a wide range of industries, such as buildings, transportation facilities, telecommunications equipment, cables and wires, trees, books, fabrics and so on.
In a word, people's clothing, food, shelter, transportation and equipment are all harmed. &# Seriousness: Because of the aggressiveness and high-speed reproductive capacity of termites, some houses may collapse, centuries-old trees may be broken, important information may be damaged and disappeared, causing great harm and irreparable loss to people's normal life. Principle of termite control: Termite control should follow the principle of "prevention first, combination of prevention and control, comprehensive management", because once termites cause harm, even if more chemical drugs are used, the economic losses caused can not be recovered. Searching for hidden termite nests is an important part of termite control.
